Hey guys, might be heading to elora gorge to do some camping and of course fishing. Has anyone been there before and what was the fishing like? Any tips on what kind of gear to use? Ive heard lots about there brown trout but who knows what they would be like in august...Let me know!

Cheers

whats the brown trout fishing like at this time of year? I would probably be using a mepps #1 or bluefox vibrax

if ur going outside of the park you would have to switch the hooks on those to single barbless.

Why is that? But I think I would just walk the river in the park near my campsite, but with that being said I have never been there so I might be going outside the park

anyone know if there are good sized trout in the park? the one time i tubed down the river i did notice some, but nothing more than 8 inches. i've never heard elora gorge being referred to as a fishing hotspot for either the river or the small lake but i guess it's possible to catch a nice fish anywhere but might be difficult in this place, much like rockwood.

I lived in Elora for 3 years and fished quite a lot....the park is like any other place.....on the right day with the right amount of sunlight with the right water clarity with the right bait with hungry fish with the right presentation with a little bit of luck you might just get that trophy :)
Looks like I might need a little bit of luck hahah!

Most of the Grand River from Bellwood Lake (Fergus) to West Montrose (where it is crossed by Hiway 86) has special regulations to ensure the stocked brown trout survive to fight again - and hopefully breed. So single barbless hooks and artificial bait only are allowed. Thus not only are the fish harder to catch than when using bait, but they don't swallow the hook so deeply - which is easy to remove since it is barbless.
For better bass you would do well to fish where the Conestoga River joins the Grand in St. Jacobs. - any hook allowed there as well.
