I missed so many hook ups, is it because my hooks are maybe too small? The single egg worked well but I missed so many on the other two. I think those hooks are 14 and the single egg is a 12. What do you guys use?

When I use flies, they usually float.

I dont usually put split shots on my leader but I guess I gotta add a small one near my fly to get it to sink
I was using a bulk shot pattern so the weights were stacked up under the float and just above the leader...but no weights on the leader itself. Because the water was so clear I could see my bait until it sunk to the strike zone. The fly is weightless so the current swung it in front of my float with ease and the weights above the leader kept it down.

Those flies that I used had no weight and they will generally float until you submerge them into the water to get them wet. I owe thanks to troutdiccted for that tip ;)

Hey FG did your dog meet new friends in the park?
There was no one there when I arrived. Besides, no time for play....we were on a mission!

Well... time to go buy some flies now!

I'm heading out on Saturday :)
Where ya headed? PM me :D

Size of hook is ok. Quite regularly use 14's and 12's especially with single eggs and smaller BHHE flies. With nymphs and egg patterns, the trout are quick to reject the fly...they don't hold on as long as with a natural bait so you have to be quick on the set at any indication of a take. Also, the hooks for the flies probably aren't as sharp as your standard hooks..the Gamagatsu's, Ravens etc

i find that egg fly pattern makes it easy for trout to spit. I use size 14. I will try to be at the wall tonight FG. And your furry friend is cute.

I'm surprised no one has commented on my furry friend!
He's a beauty for sure! Yep, knew it was some sort of a hound! Nope...I could never take mine fishing (well....maybe the mother)...I'm sure that I wouldn't be able to keep them out of the water...LOL...and if they saw a fish...I'm sure it would be game on! AND....I'd hate to be out fished by a dog!! LOL!!

Came into the thread too late and missed the fish pr0n. Great work though! Finding your own pool is probably one of the most rewarding things in fishing.

Hey FF where in Whitby are you? That's where I call home as well. Maybe we can hit the river sometime

Went out again last night......thankfully someone came along and was able to snap a pic, too bad it wasnt the biggest one of the day!
