Hey guys I was going to do some local Bass fishing and I was wondering what some effective baits are in these temperatures, I dont think ive ever fished for bass this late in the year. I usually use a combination of soft plastics, spinnerbaits and spinners. I was thinking with the colder temperatures my usual tactics might not work and I might need to opt for the easier method of using worms. I was thinking I might just take out my 13’6 float rod with my pin and try my luck floating some worms, it would be pretty fun fighting a 2lb bass on such a long rod and I bet they will jump even higher( same principal with having a higher stand in wakeboarding).

Any ideas?

Ah ha, you missed Real Fishing on Sat. Bob and Wayne were out on Lake Erie with guys from BoatExam. They had a 3 boat, 3 fish limit, Wayne's team won. They were using tube jigs for smallies. If memory serves me correct I think the largest was 5lb? Try to watch that episode online if you can. I have not tried so late myself, but Bob is always saying this is the hottest time for bass before the winter hits and season is over.

Good luck.

When does bass season close? Second Sat of Nov?

Zone 16 is Nov 30th.

From what I've read & heard, slow presentation would be key. Drop shot, tubes, worm & bobber, sloooooow.

I'm sure Dirk would chime in, but if I knew any better, I'm sure he's on the waters.

This happened just this weekend down on the Upper Niagara (Lake Erie):

38 teams competed in the 2nd Niagara Outdoor Open hosted by Fishin' Niagara and the Niagara Outdoor Show.

SATURDAY OCT 29, 2011

Fort Erie

Total of 190 Smallmouth Bass weighed in

Went out to the Conestoga close to where it meets the Grand and it was blown out so I didnt fish for very long. Caught the biggest chub ive ever seen so I had to take a pic. I thought it was a small sucker at first.

Got to love the variety!

Seriously, I wish more guys would post pics of EVERYTHING they catch..
Their all part of the same eco-system.

Fish ON! ... err, Chub On!

*SMILES*

(Definately "Freudian")

I was pretty happy when something was on my line lol, the water was so high and murky I didnt think I would be getting into anything. Now that may not seem like a massive chub for a lake ontario trib but for the Conestoga River its HUGE, twice the size of any other chub ive caught...the pic doesnt really do it justice.

hey nado i've been trying some fall smallmouth fishing recently as where i fish on detroit river season is open till nov 30.had some luck mostly small fish but man when they bite and fight good stuff anyway been using triiger x craw and trigger x tube as my lures.it's hard to slow down your presentation,i need to work on this since the weather has started to cool of the bites seem to be a little less aggressive and the fish seem to be just swiping the lure and then gone.the area i fish has lots of snags and this is frustrating at times.was out the other day, lost several tubes and one craw setup.had a larger fish take my tube could feel the weight, started the fight and then gone didn't get a good hook set not sure what it was.hoping to hit the river tomorrow and try to get a big smallmouth.

nice chris, have you tried rigging your tubes to be weedless? I used to get very frustrated while fishing with tubes before I learned this method, it makes a world of difference. I couldnt find a picture online of the method im thinking of, I might take a few tonight when I am at home.

ok so im guessing theres more then one kind of chub?!? cuz the creek chub i catch here are blueish and have rainbow trout looking stripes down the side..... and they get pretty big like 12-15 inches but are preaty skinny..... and some have a pinkish hue where the others are white (on the bottom)....

they look like this guy but most are more pinkish http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DZe-DmyhZOo/SFL5j1jtbJI/AAAAAAAAAKo/O0QkXntQDkA/s1600-h/creek+chub+boneyard+2.jpg might be from all the sewage spills....

lol you changed what I said and then agreed with it?

I wonder why they have the two week difference, its not like alot of people will be fishing for bass that time of year anyways.

There were guys fishing last year on Rice the weekend before season closed, probabaly around the 10th or 11th of December, I remember because I was at the cottage on the weekend. Best time to get big fat bass. If crank baits are not working throw Lucky Craft Cranks, they seem to always work when Rapalas and others dont.
