Fall Salmon and Trout Competition 2012

Well this piece of steel is worth putting up into the competition. At 27” I was shocked that it was that short, this fish was wayyyy bigger than the 26” Coho a few posts back. After I hooked into him he peeled at least 150 yds of line off, I wasn’t even sure it was a steelhead at first with how hard and fast it was running. Almost ended up losing him because I was fighting him too hard. When I beached him the hook was just handing on by a thread and was bent open…. :shock: You can see the bloody part on his gums where the tissue was pulled back by the hook.

Oh ya, this one was a workout for sure! Most of the steel I catch in that area are more colored up as they have a bit of a hike from the lake to that spot. I wonder if the big ones color up quicker than the small ones do as well?
