great advice <_< i dont do much fly fishing but i like running wholly buggers and egg sucking leech for steelhead under my float. Have had great success

I can tie some pretty sweet wooly buggers and egg sucking leeches but never have tried to tie these sucker spawn flies. What materials would i need for it?

Zonker Flesh Fly.

Zonker variations are easy to tie and can be fished in lot's of different ways. Tied on a jig hook with a bead head these are killer under a float for fall fish.

Has anyone ever witnessed steelhead spawning in the fall?

I know some salmon spawn in the spring and some steelies in the fall, I'm curious if anyone has seen this around the Great Lakes region.

I would think that salmon egg imitations would also work well in the fall, as it mimics what they are actually eating this time of year.

It's pretty rare actually seeing them spawn in the fall, but fall spawners are caught very year.

I usually see them around the end of October to November.

You can use glo bug yarn or angora yarn. Angora little harder to get. I use glo bug yarn. Apricot supreme color. Pretty simple to tie but the trick is to use least amount of material possible but enough to still look full. This way when it gets wet. It becomes translucent, n very natural.

Kinda hard to explain but if you could see one its actually very simple.

I saw two steelies spawn right infront of my last fall, it was pretty cool.
