I thought it would be fun to share some tasty ways to cook fish.

Most recently I tried some smoked cisco...which was really good, tasted just like smoked laker (without the huge prep time lol). Here's how we did it:

- Clean and scale the fish
- Rinse them out with cold water (running water if available lol)
- Brine them in a mixture of water, salt, and brown sugar (roughly 1 cup salt, 10 cups water, 1/2 cup sugar)
- Let sit for 2-3 hours (in the mean time get the smoker going)
- Smoke for 1-2 hrs depending on how hot you've got it going
- Enjoy!

My favorite recipe is very simple.
1 Catch Brookies.
2 Mix flour, salt and pepper.
3 Dip Brookies in mixture and shake a bit.
4 Melt butter in fry pan. Cast preferably.
5 Toss Brookies in.
6 Enjoy one of the best tasting meals around :D

That sounds delicious!

I've never eaten brook trout but that's how I usually cook bass/sunfish/perch fillets and I can imagine the brookies must taste unreal done up like that.

They're really good man, they taste just like the laker I've tried from that lake. I'm going to try frying some in butter w/salt and pepper next time...maybe even batter some up haha!

No need for extraneous flavours. Maybe a little lemon, but lb for lb my fav fish.
Sorry Walleye and Perch lovers, they are both great, but you can't beat a mess of Specks.

Nice job man, smoked fish is great. I am also a big fan of battered and fried perch and eyes.

Also, Is that a charcoal smoker?

Wow, awesome looking fish guys! :D

Never kept a fish before, might keep one, next time I catch one from a sustainable population.

Oh man those look tasty! That's how I usually cook bass perch and panners but haven't tried walleye yet!

We use wood in the smoker, just build a good base of embers at the bottom and then the wood chips go in a metal bowl over the heat so they smoulder. I'm guessing you could probably use charcoal instead of wood to get some embers going but I've never tried.

PS: look forward to some MGD myself this summer...such a great bre for sunny days lol

Mmmmm that smoked Ciscoe sure does look tasty. I smoked a few lakers this winter and they are definitely one of my favorite smoked fish when I was able to get it right.

Just last week we tried some cedar plan rainbow trout which I really enjoyed. We just rubbed a mixture of oil, lemon, garlic, salt & pepper and put it on the bbq.

bassr I feel like I would need to hire sherpas to guide me to your village...awesome man

Man cedar plank is awesome! Never done rainbow on it though but that's on the list for sure, thanks! And yah the smoker is more of a guessing game than a science in my experience haha but its worth it because, as my friend likes to say "everything tastes better smoked".

Haha thx man, I wish! This trip was actually more of a vacation than an adventure but fun nonetheless. However a lot of the lakes adjacent to this one aren't accessible by road or motor boat so it can be a fun place to portage around...we will do some sherpa-ing soon lol

I like the batter and fry method as well.

Anyone have any experience with Fish Crisp?

I'm going camping and I would like to fry up my catch for some tasty meals. I always see Fish Crisp when I am in Canadian Tire or Walmart and I've always been curious because it would be easy to just buy a pack or 2 to bring along.

What flavours are good? The beer batter, garlic and butter and cajun all caught my eye.

These are some cold water perch from the start of ice season, great eating.

I think your buddy has it right, everything is better smoked lol

I like MDG year round but an ice cold one on a hot summer day is hard to beat!

Fish crisp is awesome. I like the regular kind and the maple one which is kind of expensive. I personally do all fish up in batter. Can't wait for walleye opener, Imo the best tasting fish out there, besides post spawning lake ontario salmon
