Hi Folks, I own a Motorhome (RV) and I think it's a great advantage to set up camp close to where you want to fish, that way you can be on the water for first light (or before) or there right up until it gets dark without the worry about the drive home after a long day on the river.

I was thinking that in the Spring I might start checking out a few of them to see what the access, facilities, campsites & fishing is like and possibly get a group together whether it's in Motorhomes, Trailers, tent trailers or just tents and depending on what Park it is you could also bring your boat, canoe or kayak.

Perhaps we could call it a Gathering or a Rally or something along those line & invite a Fishing Store vendor or 2 along to show us there wares and possibly have demo's or two for how to fly fish or center pin float fishing & if you want to make it a family thing teach the kids (adults too) how to fish.

It's just an idea, if you guys already do something like that then I'm sorry for bringing it up... but if not we have the opportunity to do it a couple of times a year in different parks & fish. Maybe a Vendor could donate a prize or 2 and have some sort of fishing competition for the adults or the kids.... or come up with ideas.

I am just throwing this out there to see if there is any interest, if it's too much then maybe just a small group of us could get together a few times over the year and check out the camping and fishing in a couple of Provincial parks.

Thanks for reading this & I welcome any input

Ronnie

Lots of great parks. I'm down but I don't drive so would have to catch a ride with someone.
Ontario is a great province. How far does anyone want to go to find a park? I know some that are 2 hrs and some that are 10 hrs.

Alfie.

Hi Alfie, yes there are tons of great parks in Ontario and I have found that some of them fill up quite quickly for holiday weekends etc & so I have learned that it is advisable to book sites in advance to make sure you don't get disappointed.

Are you aware that Senior and the Disabled get sizable discounts on the campsites.

I think it would depend on the majority which Park they wanted to go to for the first trip, some parks are secluded and you can hike/canoe to secluded lakes to fish or even just to enjoy the solitude.

Lots of options for everyone.....

Hi Ronnie.
As I said earlier I would be down for a campout. A really nice park a few hrs east of Toronto is Sandbanks. You can fish East Lake, West Lake, Lake O and the Outlet River. Most of the species are not open yet but will be soon. Bass, Pike, and Walleye. Lots of panfish to keep the kids entertained. And I have caught some huge Bowfin there and Gar.
It is a well equipped park, but as you mentioned could be busy so reservations may be needed.
Just don't cross the road with an open beer in your hand. A few years back nieghbors from across the road invited us over to sit by their fire and I made that mistake. One of the park staff saw me and we were evicted the next morning. Apparently I could have carried a full cooler across the road, but one open container and you're done <_<

Campground politics... That must have been an absolute bummer. I've had close calls like that before too.

Sandbanks is a nice park but you do need to make reservations. All of the really nice provincial parks fill up really quick on summer weekends, especially long weekend.

One place that another member on the forum pointed out to me was Haliburton Forest Wildlife Reserve. I booked a site up there for a weekend in the summer. There are over 50 lakes on the reserve and I believe that the majority of them are stocked with various species of trout. I am heading up there for 4 days at the end of June with a canoe. I hope to come back with a nice report and photos.

Alfie you never take your beer over to a neighbours campsite, you down yours first then go and help drink theirs!! It's called hospitality.

When I first came to Canada many moons ago I saw this sign "Drink Canada Dry" and I thought I could do that!!! Lol

Lets just see who is interested first, then which park is best for everyone, how many is definately coming bearing in mind that may 24 weekend is probably booked up already and I'm sure some of us has some room to for a passenger or two.
