Way to kick off the new year! I ate something a little off over the weekend and have been in bed since yesterday feeling a little under the weather, otherwise I probably would have gone fishing too! Maybe I'll be able to make it out today at some point.

You guys are so lucky that you get to go fishing!

Wow 1:16 AM! That must have been quite an experince casting a line out while fireworks are going. That says only onething: you love fishing more than anything. Congratulations. That must be the first canadian carp hooked in 2013

Looks well fed.Am I correct to understand they are tricky to catch?
Just like any other fish sometimes they are easy and sometimes not so easy. The key to catching them once you locate feeding carp is in understanding how they feed. They don't bite like a pike or a walleye or bass. They draw food into their mouth along with any debris around it , hold that food against the roof of their mouth and expel everything else back through their mouth. This happens very very quickly. So they can suck in your bait then blow it out so fast that you don't have a chance to hook them.
Two ways to over come this are the hair rig and the paylake rig. Here is a post I did on the pay lake rig. My link . You can also check our club out here. CAG . If you have any questions just ask.

Hey Hammercarp question are Carp good eating? I have European friends who eat them for Christmas and love them. On the other hand a lot of people I know say there bottom feeder and they don't taste good. I have a feeling the people who say there no good to eat just don't know what there taking about or never tried them.

So are they good eating?

Hollywood,
A lot of people say they are. It is what they were stalked here for in the first place over 130 years ago.I have never eaten carp but I am willing to give it a try if it comes from decent water. Most of my carp fishing is done in Hamilton Harbour and local waters so I don't think I'll be eating any of those catches.

i have actually eaten one from the canal in bradford believe it or not(for those of you that know that toilet) the thing tasted fantastic...but i also ate a chinny u caught at the ganny..so maybe i am the wrong guy to post..lol
