]Hey, so this is my first post on this forum. I've been fishing up in the the Kawartha Lakes all my life but its not until recently that i had taken up an interest in Brown Trout/Salmon/Rainbow/Steelheads etc. Through recommendations of my uncle, he mentioned i should invest in a Fenwick HMX Steelhead rod. I will be fishing the Whitemans (brantford, i think that's what it's called), Caledonia Grand river in november. I also hope to venture out to Bronte (Petro Station) with some friends and try for salmon. The more i read this forum, it seems i need to be carefulI around bronte as it seems to be a bunch of butchers and a general s**t show . Basically I'm a noob, any help would be appreciated. Through research i am guessing a Fenwick HMX 10' Medium Heavy to Heavy action rod (spinning) would be appropriate for these situations? please correct me if I'm wrong. Also my current reel is spooled with 15lbs p-line i know that a 6lbs leader line is needed for fishing with a float and beads, and a 12 size hook correct? Braided line is not required? Also i"ve heard rumors about the toxicity levels of mercury in lake ontario. I'm a second year science student at mcmaster. I understand ecosystems very well, especially bio accumulations of heavy metals. Is infrequent consumption of salmon low risk from lake ontario?
