OVER LIMIT OF WALLEYE COSTS $6,380 AND FOUR-YEAR SUSPENSION

THUNDER BAY, ON - January 23, 2009 - A Toronto area man has been fined $6,380 and given a four-year fishing suspension for having 34 walleye over the legal limit. Paul Collins, 53, pleaded guilty and was fined $150 for each of the 34 walleye he possessed over the legal limit of four. He was also ordered to pay court costs of $1,280.

In July 2008, Collins was visiting family and fishing in the Vermillion Bay area. An anonymous tip provided the Ministry of Natural Resources with information that Collins was transporting a significant number of walleye home to the Toronto area. The ministry and the Ontario Provincial Police worked together and Collins was stopped on Highway 17 near Marathon with 38 frozen walleye. The fish were frozen in such a way that they could not be easily identified or counted. Investigation is continuing into other individuals who were fishing with Collins.

Justice of the Peace Hoppe heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Dryden, on January 20, 2008.

oh man, that sucks big time!!! well i guess thats what you get for doing something like that when you shouldnt be doing that.

I got caught the first time I started fishing. I didn't know about the difference between a conservation license and a sports license. I was 1 fish over the 2 allowed for the conservation.

my age is one of the reasons i joined this website, i don't know anyone my age interested in fishing

wow...highschool was so long ago for me!

i just recently graduated from university. wanted to do something more fish related after getting out (conservation-wise) but the openings just weren't there. especially with the economy so bad right now...not a lot of job openings.

right now i'm just at an indoor environmental company and chugging along. hopefully i'll move on to something i enjoy a lot more.

YAWN is right...get through the education and you'll be fine. :D

Oh and by the way do you know where there are alot of crayfish and any tips on catching them?

i do, but you can't use them as bait unless it's in the same body of water that you got it from, and you can't release it in a different place either

:S I don't know about any laws lol i just catch them for the heck of it... I mean, I don't actually keep them, thyre just cool to look at... :) and to poke at too!
