I am wondering if anyone here has went for aurora trout? I am going to plan a trip around this species next year if all goes well. The rules are very strict regarding the species, so i am hoping another lake in the area will be open, so a days fishing will not have to stop if we catch an aurora right away.

Damn, I used to know a small site dedicated to Aurora trout. I just know that certain lakes are open for certain years and closed all year for others. Very delicate fish due to all the inbreeding.

Here ya go... I'm interested in this myself.

Pretty strict regs:
"There has been some confusion about NO MULTI-CATCH & RELEASE. There are additional regulations pertaining to Aurora Trout under the Endangered Species Act. You are allowed to catch one (1) Aurora Trout per day. You can keep it or let it go but that's it. No more fishing for the rest of the day on that lake. If you do keep the trout, you must eat it to be able to fish the next day. If you give the trout to friends, you cannot fish on that lake until they eat the trout because legally it's still the trout that you caught. "

Yeah exactly...with the regs the way they are, i might even want to camp on another near lake, and then just do a day trip with the canoe to try for an aurora. I am catch and release when it comes to brook trout mostly, and i would for sure release an aurora after a quick pic.

I was born and raised in Northern Ontario, never heard of these until just a few years ago. (I've fished from Muskoka to Smooth Rock Falls) We're currently living in the GTA, and head north often enough to visit family or fish or both. Should be up there for a week starting soon, hopefully the "picks" are hungry, because I am - I'll snoop around and see if I can find out more...
