Fishfinder TransDucer mounting ideas

Hi guys,

i got an inflatable boat Intex Seahawk 400. it's not a hard bottom or rigid inflatable but regular soft bottom boat.

Also i got a HUMMINBIRD portable fish finder and it comes with suction-mount transducer but the problem is with soft bottom boat how do i mount even this suction cup ? i don't want it to change directions with every wave that shakes the boat bottom and also what if it fails it will hook the trolling motor propeller which is not a good idea also.

also i have seen some mounting brackets that allow to mount on trolling motor itself but i am afraid of interference with motor and also because of the propeller this scenario won't give me much accuracy in readings.

any DIY ideas what can i do?

Hi John

Get some large dowel or aluminum tube from Home Depot/Rona. If you can't find the aluminum I have some scrap lying around, 1 inch dia. You'll have to mount it onto the transom. Give me a measurement of how deep the transducer has to be. The transducer has to be at a depth where the water is undisturbed by turbulance of the boat and the troll motor.

If you go with the wood dowel, I think it may be easier. You'll have to have a short piece of plastic tube that the dowel will fit tightly around. This tube you mount permanetly on the transom, the transducer mount it on to the dowel end, slides into the tube. You might have to cut a small piece of plywood, mount transducer to it then mount the plywood to the dowel. BINGO DONE!! Should just take a few hours to do.

This should work from what I remember of how that model's transducer looks. I only seen it once. Can you send me some pics of it then I can Macgyver something better for you.

Here's what I use. It's adjustable, aluminum, inexpensive and attaches fixed on the transom - no problem. I have the standard model, not sure about the other two versions.

Mount it right onto the trolling motor with the bracket. It will not interfere and it will not fall off. The are designed to be put there if you cannot mount them through hull or transom for boats.

How's it going? Have'nt seen you post in a while. How's the fishing? Last weekend was not worth going out, I stayed home. This weekend is warm warm. Moon is not in a good position tho.

John's worried about getting it knocked off b/c he fishes shallow areas for bass. But yeah the mount will hold it. I can't tell from the pic if the transducer is easy to remove for portability. When John, Frank and I came up to Rice, we put his boat, motor and battery in my truck. I guess he can alway disconnect the finder cable at the back and wrap it around the motor.
