fishin' for trout

Never targetted trout, but going to the conestogo for the opener in hopes of landing a few.
any suggestions of what to use? I have a few flies in my box, as well as some spinners and fake minnows... I usually work best with live worms and minnows with a bobber...

I've also got a dollar store next to me i can stop in at if you could suggest any canned meat for fun...

suggestions?

I actually just watched some videos and saw that berkley gulp pink trout worms work well. Havent tried it out my self as ive never caught a trout but pending responses from some of the other members i might just decide to do that. You should look them up!

I have head that too, i have used them, im still 0/0 but im still earlie in my area. i feel like they have great potential! id trust em

If you are fishing the conestogo river for trout you should try the stretch of the river that is closer to the dam. The dam there takes the cold water from the bottom of the lake creating a stretch of the river that is cold enough for trout, they have been trying to build up the trout population and there are some stockers but not many. So if you do fish for trout there please catch and release.

Effective techniques for trout there would be floating roe or pink worms. Tossing mepps aglias #2 or 3's can also work when the water is warmer.

Pink worms work well. Caught three last weekend at the rouge river on them. Trying to up load my bids but having a hard time with it. You can also use the hot orange works as well. Just make sure you drift slower then the current and you will hit them. Be patient if the water is a little cloudy.

panther martins!!! there little spinners and if im not fly fishing im using them. size 0-2 aglia mepps can work too. I would not use pink worms because they dont look natural at all. Dew worms usually produce and big browns will take minnows. Be as natural as possible, especially if fishing heavly pressured and clear water... but some reason i find residental trout love tiny spinners.

Considering ive caught some of my biggest fish on pinkies (pink worms)..id say they look just fine..plus lets be honest..what fisherman doesnt love the pink ..

Well Mr. Jordan, do u catch fish? There is a reason why we use bright colors like pink, green, hot red, white, an so many others .............. To the other gent that wanted to know, use BRIGHT colors if the water is cloudy or dirty an when the water is clearer use more earth colors. Or every time u go out for the day, the people who catch, watch what others r using.

So many different opinions, but just go out an try different thing that work for you

as for the guy sayin don't use them thats funny. Natural is the best, but every bait has its time. Heck i've cought fish on green worms when i couldn't get anything to nibble on my roe :smile:

im not saying dont use them, because they still produce....more during rains and murky water. But in crystal clear water i tend to find they dont as well as natural baits. I fish mainly resident browns which can be very picky fish.

For me its panther martin #4+#6 and mepps aglia #2+#3. Silver has been most effective for me overall. If the water is murky i will tip a small piece of worm. Nothing i have ever seen makes a big trout more aggresive than a spinner. I grabbed a 30" rainbow yesterday on a panther martin #6.
I personally think that its more important how you work the bait, than what you use.(to a point i guess) A couple of poor casts and you'll spook those big buggers.(good luck after they are spooked)

speaking of that dollar store..see if they sell small plastic or rubber beads about the size of a pea or smaller..they work pretty darn well especially when roe bags and artificial's arent producing..
