It's a northern water snake and they are not poisonous at all (shiner minnow). They are fairly common in the area. This one was just laying in the grass as i walked by. She didn't try to bite at all and was quite tame after the first minute or so of holding her. I was just fishing from shore near the dam/breakwall on the train track side of mountsberg (crappie). Unfortunately I don't have a boat/canoe yet to fish any where but from shore :(

Bad joke of the day----->>>What did the fish say when it hit the wall???? ........................................................ Dam!!

Mountsberg has more conflicting reports than any lake I've ever read about. My experience there has always been slow. Have only ever caught an OOS largie and a baby pike. And that's in 5 visits by boat. Though only 2 hours at a time.

Yet I've heard from several people on different forums about their successes of multiple big fish days. But then again, others say the place is dead. And a huge pain in the azz when the weeds grow.

Caught this one Saturday when i was out there and my buddy also caught one a little smaller.

I was there last year as were the people with all the white buckets that keep everything from the 8lb pike to the 3"pumpkin seed so it wouldn't surprise me if its now a dead lake

Mountsberg is pretty decent if you can your hands on a canoe. If you put together a little fish science, it becomes obvious where to throw spinners and cranks. There are parts where there are some dandy pike and other parts where you can get some decent bass. Don't expect to find any hogs in 1' of water on a hot day.

The only time I was there about 5 yrs ago in a little pelican fishing boat, I saw a guy walk away with a garbage bag full of pike. A little lake like that can't sustain ppl abusing it

I have caught a ton of fish at Mountsberg but it has declined in action for the past 5 years I don't go as much anymore.

This picture is showing 1 of about 5 nice bass I caught and the beginning of August last year off the train tracks at mountsberg I had been there since 4pm and had nothing until 7pm then the lake just lit up i was using a top water Rapala Popper and in about 45 mins I had many different hits and 5 nice bass all of which I released back into the reservoir.

its hit of miss there I still go a few times every year.
