I am curious to know whether the manufacturers of the fishing gear (lure, rod, electronics, boat, etc) actually contribute to any conservation activity? I think it makes total sense that they should. They promote the harvest of fisheries by making the stuff and sponsor all professional and shows, etc. Instead of directing their money to sponsoring the “harvest”, they could contribute to “conservation” as well, just like the fishermen do by paying the licence fee

I don't know about anyone else but my license fee is nothing compared to my yearly donations to conservation efforts.

As for companies sponsoring shows, its good, gets more people into the sport, and it increases public image of fishing being good. Tournaments add excitement and also justify the "sport" of fishing to non-anglers. Plus most of these companies being outside of Canada, the companies that do take a role in conservation generally do more in their home countries.

A company like Shimano donates countless rods and reels at children's events across the country and they also have a catch & release pontoon boat that is used at many bass tournaments.
