Fishing line

There are some guys that swear by red hooks, even for shallow crank baits where they would not be affected by the dispersion of light in the water. One of the reasons that they give,is to give the illusion that the bait is bleeding, and therefore an easy target.

Now I have some questions ! ! !

PowerPro 8lb test has equal diameter of 1lb test mono. Does this mean PowerPro 8lb can cast as good as 1lb mono when casting ultra light lures ?
Or due to the characteristics of the braid/mono, mono will cast better ?
I am talking about casting out 1/32 weight size lures.
I would really like to know the answer to this. Ok ok.. so you won't be able to buy any mono @ 1lb test...
So I wouldn't mind 2lb mono vs. 10lb PowerPro (which have 2lb mono diameter)

Because I would like to cast these ultra light micro size lures far but there is no way I am gonna cast out $6 2" rapala lures on 2lb mono.

Incidentally I was wondering if anyone used the Power Pro in yellow and Red colors and what you thought of the line and the different colors? I will try Red color but I was thinking of getting yellow or green for my other setups and wanted to know.

Braided line is not smooth like mono so my best guess would be that the braided line would not cast as far as an equal diameter mono line.

Also Braided line is more visible then mono which might be ideal for picky trout.

I've just used the power pro so I could give you an answer about the fireline.

Fireline is almost like wire it has memory of kinks and such if you bend or twist it. The crystal one is suppose to be almost invisible in the water but I would have to say no... on that. It's extremely strong and when it snaps it tends to snap at the knot. Doesn't fray like spiderwire original and overall I would have to say I'm pretty happy with it. I'm planning on trying stren microfused glacier next, my friend has it and it glows in sunlight and glows in the dark as well.

I was at the gagnon's sale this weekend and picked up two spools of Power pro green (15 +20 #, equiv to 4 and 6). It was suggested that I use monofilament on first and then only put on as much braided as my longest cast plus some extra for tying knots 'because braided gets wind knots'. Anyone else do this? at 11$/150yds I'm tempted to fill the reel with it until I see if I like it. I'll be putting it to use on a 12'6" steelhead setup with an 8 or 10 lb mono leader.

I've used mono as a backup on my reel, and then put all the roll of braided on. I would suggest a floro leader 8lb for your leader since floro is way more invisible than mono. I use the seagar floro leader.

What is wind knot?

Only reason I see for putting mono first on reel is to help avoid line slipage. Or small piece of electrical tape working great too.

Btw... did Gagnon have Red color PowerPro too ?
Also did they have a lot left in stock ?
And why is it on sale? Maybe it's some fake made in no where copy ?

Is it ok to use a swivel to tie both lines together ie Braid to fluoro? would 30" of fluoro as a leader make that much of a difference?

I like to use a swivel with two to three ft of floro sometimes, if I am using a spinner to prevent line twist, otherwise I would tie a double uni knot to attach both lines. Here is a site for that:http://www.netknots.com/html/fishing_knots.html.
I guy I know has a fishing camera and the one thing that he noticed is when his bait was hanging down infront of the camera, is the difference between floro leaders and every other type of leader. He says that the floro is virtually invisable and you can easily see the other lines. So when a fish is carefully checking out your bait, you increase your changes of fooling that fish into biting.

picked up 2 15# 150yds packs of power pro from gagnon today, And got a free power pro hat out of it

Hahha, I feel ripped off, no hat for me.

MikeyMikey: I didn't see Red, they were pushing the green. I assume that power pro approached them to run it on sale to encourage people to start using it. I don't believe it's a made in no where copy. the packaging is quite intricate and they have printed booklets in each. They had a ton left in stock when I was there on friday, but the sale ended on sunday so this may be a little late for you.

from what I could understand he was saying that because the braided is so slippery some excess line can come off at the end of your cast and form a loop as you retrieve later this will form a knot. I think his main motivation was cost as braided normally is over 2x the cost of mono.

I'm assuming gagnon's would have floro but I'm hoping Canadian Tire in bowmanville will as well. Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a try with the full spool of braided (tied off and taped) and then 3' or so of floro. I'm so eager to try the new rod and have a couple of ideas for tackling steelhead in durham region just to pick up yet MORE tackle.

I was at BPS.There is met guy from Berkeley's.I asked them for suggestion on buying line. They gave me Fireline Crystal. As per they saying, this is the best line you can have right now.I also met bass tournament angler. He also recommended me this Fireline Crystal.I am using it and found out great. It will cost u around $20 for 150yd spool.thx

Cool, thats the fireline I have, you can get it in 300 yards for $30 @ lebaron on special.

You can also get 500 yards of power pro for about 45 bucks @ lebaron I think which is not a bad deal if you have to sppol up 3 or so reels
