Does anyone here know any places in southern Ontario where it is legally allowed to fish off of a road bridge onto a river? The only place I know is Dunnville (near the dam). I was wondering if there are any other places where fishing off a bridge is allowed.

The only place I'm aware of is Hastings - And I was under the impression that Hastings is the only road bridge in Ontario where it is still legal. :D

There is a bridge/causeway on both Mitchell Lake and Canal Lake that you can fish from. Lots of people on Canal, but everytime I talk with them they don't have much luck there. Now on Mitchell, I've been fishing from the boat, but I cast towards the causweway. Bass, pannies, even musky from there. You just can't park your car on a bridge.

You can legally fish off the bridge in Dunnville. You will see people fish off the bridge there trying to catch channel catfish from the Grand River.

What do people use as bait up here for catfish?

While in Florida we used chicken liver that was soaked in Garlic for the chanel cat fish. Sail Catfish we used Live shrimp or Squid. Both of which I am sure wouldnt work up here LOL

recently the rainbow trout and steelhead have been jumping the dam some guy caught a pickerel there 2 days ago fishing at the dam has been pretty alright i have been catching bass my self from the dam

I was unaware there was any question about the legality of fishing from a bridge. I'm not sure why you would want to, unless you are using as Chronzy would say a telephone pole and steel cable. Why put your fishing gear at risk trying to bring a big fish up to a bridge. And if you are doing catch and release, how are you releasing these fish? Just dropping them back to the water with no resusitation?

Alfie.

Canal crossings in the Mitchell's Bay area can be fished off, I think, for crappie, bass, pike.

That's a great point.

I use a whole worm and dip in in maille until it is all beige. I fish it under a float to cover more water. That's what works best for me.

Are you sure they were rainbows? It seems way too early for them.

Ya I would never fish off a bridge, you would never be able to release a fish alive, instead of C and R it would be catch and kill
This is where a minnow umbrella net or a bucket comes in. I use my umbrella net and tie it to a long piece of rope. I drop it down to the water and get the fish in it, haul it up, take out the hook and then drop the whole contraption back down. Then lower it slightly into the water and the fish will swim off. Work great, and the same thing works with a bucket.

I've used shrimp for Bullheads and it worked. Channel Cats will eat almost everything (not garbage). You could use soap for channel cats, chicken liver, worms... the stinkier the better. Bullheads are pretty much the same but you have do downsize.
