HEllo folks. I love this forum. Just getting into fishing!

I have a canoe and fishing equipement that I am renting and want to fish in Lake Simcoe. THis has always been a dream of mine. I am novice at both. Anyone give me suggestions where I can fish around barrie area. I want to get a BIG fish. Also not die when I have my canoe out there. lol

Thanks

if you're a novice in canoing, stick close to shore so can reach safety pretty quick if you dump it, the air may be warm, but the water is still pretty cold

don't go alone, stay close to shore. life jacket. ziploc your phone. take every precaution you can that will save your life. sadly though, if you want big fish...you have to go deep.

what about kempenfelt bay? It gets pretty deep close to shore, I have never seen it without ice though.

These guys are right, if you don't have much experience with a canoe then you might want to stick to some smaller water than lady Simcoe first. Even in Cooks bay the wake from some of the really big boats can be huge. Why not try Little lake or Couch first? Both close to Barrie. Also the wind can push you out into the open lake.

That being said there if a canoe for most waters, we use the 17 foot freighter canoe in Simcoe and normally run a 6 or 10 horse on it. I have also had a 19 foot square stern canoe on the great lakes including Superior but with a 35 horse and a payload in the thousands of pounds it pushing the canoe label. Never attempted a portage with it lol

I swam in it on the weekend at innisfil beach and I assure you it is 57 degrees--you wont survive --not to mention the winds and waves can kick up in minutes on that lake I had a cottage there for five years--saw storms form in minutes
