I went out on Friday around Conestogo river. So low. Walked down the river with some flip flops from conestogo town to the golf course. A few bites, nothing much. Walled past a dead northern pike (maybe a few hours tops) that was a good 3 feet long. Spent the morning looking for a 25 foot pool along the stretch but the elusive pool was no where to be found (don't worry, I won't tell you exactly where I heard it was). Hit up st Jacobs dam and caught a nice carp, but it was so low and the bite was slow. Hit up Columbia lake in Waterloo-- so many juvenile bass (about 8-10 inches) lurk around there. All in all, glad to get out.

Thanks for the Report!

Hopefully the rain will change some things up!

Low, warm water is always diffucult to fish.

Course, when you do find the DEEP POOLS, the fish are more concentrated.

Problem is, the heat and water temps ... seem to slow the bite down.

*If possible try some REAL EARLY or LATE NIGHT fishing.

They have to eat some time!

Today would have been a good day to fish that river from 7pm to 11pm. Pike for the last couple hours of daylight, bass and walleye as it gets dark.

I caught my biggest ever pike there during a cold front, around 5pm I think, on family fishing week in 2009. I did put in about a million casts to the same little area using live bait. That's what it seems to take there now, as it's overfished in many areas.

I've never fished Columbia Lake but I hear there's really large smallmouth in there. Someone should throw some pike in there

Any idea what happened to the pike?

U thinking of Conestogo Lake Salmo? I have caught quite a few of the smaller bass in Columbia lake in the past but I dont think anything other than carp gets too big in there due to the draining of the resevoir and low oxygen levels.

Heard from more than one angler that there are big smallmouth in there. I guess they can tolerate it, they must have a good food source in there of some sort. It's pretty deep in some spots isn't it?

Im going to have to give the lake a second look I guess. I was under the impression that it was pretty shallow all around but I could be wrong. Ill have to swing by after work some time.

smallmouth get to a fair size. 3lb is the biggest i've caught there. the water i would guess is about 5-10 feet at it's deepest.

hitting the river again with a few buddies friday night, 7-10. not sure where to go round this time of year.
