Nick Evans: If you don't mind me asking, what knot do you use bud? Anything that can hold down those monst fish of yours will do me just fine haha. The blood knot hasn't let me down yet but I've only used in on heavier line a handful of times.
When connecting your mainline to your leader I usually use a uni to uni knot, the problem with this is that it only works with lighter fluorocarbon (10lb-50lb). The blood knot is decent for fluorocarbon but with anything higher than 60 lb I suggest you use a swivel to tie to, otherwise the knot could slip. Even when using 30lb-50lb I always tighten my knots with plyers and make sure it is wet before tightening. When joining the swivel to the fluorocarbon I usually use a leader loop knot or a Lee Knot. The leader loop knot creates a loop which allows for a little more freedom on the swivel or snap. The Lee knot is snug to the snap or swivel.

Hope this helps

Good luck!

hey guys.. i've been looking to an alternative to wire leaders for fishing my husky jerks when targeting pike.. the wire leaders cause the lures to sink...

im thinking of trying fluoro as a pike leader.. which i've never done before (tired of my wire leaders kinking also)

would I have to tie the fluoro directly to the lure to keep the lure working properly.. or could I just make premade fluoro leader in the same style as wire ones at 18" and use those? im thinking these would weigh down the lure as well..

how do you guys rig husky jerks for pike? thanks

Well I was thinking of going for a 20lb fluorocarbon but I'm wondering if that will tie well to my 40lb braid.

I'd tie it to a swivel but the only disadvantage is that that won't go through the guides.
the diameter of the braid should be around 10 pound in relation to fluoro/mono lines. however since 40 lb braid is used for heavy cover i would use at least 15lb fluoro - 20 depending on how heavy the cover.

On the weekend I ran 15lb braid with 6lb fluro that landed me a 4lb smallie no problem.

On the other rod I set my dad up with 40lb braid and 12lb fluro on which he got 2 decent smallmouth

I ended up switching from my 6lb to 12lb fluro and kept the 15lb braid. Little weird setup on my rod...but it seems to be alright so far. I may put on the 40lb braid later on.

I used it before on bond lake before it got swarmed with police and MNR guys. There goes that wonderful pike infested water body :(

Getting a pike on a CP is awesome
