Fly Rod Weight

What would be a good fly rod weight for fishin 16 inch bass in a river?

Still new to fly fishing, but I'm guessing a 4 wt for some challenging fun. I would think either a 5 wt or 6 wt will do the job fine.

A 5 or 6 wt would be ok but you need something that has the muscle do punch the wind resistant flies out and a 4 wt is alittle light I use my 5,6 and 7 wt rods for bass the other thing I would tell you to look at is a bass taper fly line it's got a heavier taper again to help with casting big flies hope that helps

Agree with you there, a 5 or 6 is right. I've even used up to a 9wt for bass, but prefer the 6.

Have heard tell that you can fish anywhere in Ontario if you have a 5weight and a 7weight....
