I was reading an article that said as follows
small rods --small flies--makes sense
large rods--larger flies, streamers etc..

now here is where they lost me---larger rod not good with small flies...I don't have a lot of exp however I cast with a small Hendrickson and a large wooly on my 8 wt and both seemed to feel somewhat similar and most importantly manageable...please give me your input.

thanks

Look at like this: If you try to cast a musky bait on an ultra lite trout rod with 6lb test, bad results. If you try to cast 0 Blue Fox Vibrex on a musky rod with 40lb mono, bad results. Often the rods we use in fly fishing accommodate the flies as much or more than the fish we target. For example, a 5wt rod will handle any smallmouth bass but the large, wind resistant flies that we cast can be a challenge on a light rod. Conversely, yes you can cast a hendrickson on and 8wt but the rod is too much for the tippet that you would be using (4,5X) so hook sets and the fight become problematic with such a heavy rod. Hope that makes some sense.

so the tippet is more important and with a 4x or 5x tippet the rod is not sensitive enough and you will break off more..correct?
