Awesome guys its great to have all this feedback! I will put something together through the holidays and show you guys an end product when I have got it together! Appreciate it guys
Yet another endorsement for putting together your own kit. Often kit scissors are not sharp or tight enough, and the bobbins can be clumsy. I saw a kit recently that had better materials than usual, but to use them all you would have to tie everything from small nymphs and wet flies to large colourful streamers - which may be fun, but you might end up kind of scattered.
If you go to a good shop and start by talking about your target fish and types of water, you will start with only the materials for about 5 or 10 patterns, but the materials will be ones you will use over and over and not wasted. The tools will be the ones you need now, and as you progress and your needs grow you can add other materials. As well, the fly shop will take the time to adjust your bobbin tension or show you how to use some of the tools - which is much better than relying on UTube.
The main thing you want in a vise is excellent steel and a firm (easy to use) grip. A Griffin 1Ahttp://www.griffinenterprisesinc.com/vises.html is actually all you need to do the job - you can move up later if you wish. I recommend the C-clamp style if you have the appropriate desk/table, because you can adjust the height.
As for a bobbin threader - get a little box of floss threaders in the dental section of the drug store. Don't buy or use the wire ones (bent guitar strings) from the fly shop because the wire might scratch the bobbin, resulting in broken or frayed threads.
