Lessons are available. There is no substitute for hands on.

yep....i am definitely a hands on learner.... give me a step by picture guide of what its supposed to look like after each step, and i can do it.

You should have seen my first flies wooooo ,what a sad looking bunch they were . I have been tying now for over 30 years and had some pretty good coaches over those years , but the best teacher I ever had the pleasure to watch was Lee Wolf when he was alive . What an artist he was . Truly an inspiration to all of us who tie flies . Keep at it and you will get nothing but better . It is a great pass time . Just remember that most of the pretty flies are for us fisherpeople not the fish :) , the uglier ones are the ones the fish seem to like more . Look forward to seeing more of your ties . Tight lines and good tying .

It might be a drive but you'll save the money that you spend in gas on hooks, material and time in your first week.;) Seriously though, down town can help you as well.

lol good job jmatt I honestly couldn't tell u what makes a good fly except don't crowd the eye with thread :D just kidding they actually look great and #1 looks like u started off well but the final wrap with that black thread messed U up... no worrys hooks are pretty cheap and practice makes perfect.

And your re attempt of the bugger looks a lot better
