I've noticed that in the summer months at dust the rainbows feed off the surface, so I finally decided to get a fly rod. Are there any particular flies I should be using, or at this point would any fly work? I usually fish rainbows with rainbow colours (spoons, spinners) but wouldn't think this would work with flies as well.

Has anyone had success with this?

I would suggest trying to match the colour and size of what is hatching, if what you want is to get them off the surface then a dry fly is the go too. But then again I've caught a few rainbows in my day on the ugliest mangled flies you can imagine.

If you have a local fly shop near by, they can point you in the right direction for what flies to use and when. I don't pay attention much to the names of flies as I do to the size and colour.

Would both wet and dry flies be productive for fishing a lake? Keep in mind I've never done this before and only last summer did I notice heavy surface feeding during the summer months.

Any additional info would be appreciated!
