FYI - There are no real fish in Ashbridges Bay / Tommy Thompson Park

There are definitely fish there, but let's be honest, when you put in one or several days of effort to catch a few fish, that fishery is practically dead - we will see more and more of these, unless major stocking is done. I have traveled and fished in several other parts of the world and should say our waters are more pressured than all I have seen, whereas our stocking records are the lowest they can be. Ontario has one million anglers and way too little conservation or stocking efforts for the fish eating population we have

What do I consider game fish and what I was targetting is a silly question. Google what are gamefish - this is what I consider gamefish. I was not targetting bottom feeders. My initial post indicates what I was using and where I was fishing. My post is not about semantics. @bowslayer post only reiterates what I am saying. (Ps you keep a lot of fish). Again, i've spoken to many people who say the same thing. Enough hearsay, let's see some proof There are similar posts to mine as well.

Last spring, I also caught a drum that day.


When I was at TT last month, I saw lots of LMB, I mean lots, couldnt catch any, but they were following my flies. They use the spit as a spawning grounds, as do many other fish including pike, SMB, and carp.

Its all about timing with places like this. Lake Ontario is a huge body of water so the fish can move around quite a bit when they want.

I have caught alot of bass & pike in Leslie spit...that was way back when "selifies" were not invented so I can't help you with your "pics or it didn't happen" challenge.

Ashbridges is in fact a very poor spot for fishing only because so many sailboats boss that place and moor in every area possible (despite signs that says they can't) I have only caught brown trout in ashbridges and nothing else. If you're going a little bit east...I'd say bluffers park is better than both only because the spit is a b*tch if you don't like hiking.

Nothing is worth your effort along the Toronto lake front...it is polluted, heavily pressured, and zero gamefish. Go fish Temagami where you prefer. Don't waste your time at Tommy Thompson or Ashbridges. Honestly. -_-

BTW, Google what is a "gamefish" in Europe...and familiarize yourself with the fish that supports a much larger tackle industry and pays more money in tournaments in Europe...hint...it certainly isn't Largemouth Bass or Northern Pike or Zander (relative of Walleye) or those 4lb European Perch. You may pay a litte more respect toward those so called "bottom feeders".

There is also a whole fishing tourism industry revolving around a bottom feeder called Wels Catfish...which would easily eat all your over glorified "gamefish" for snack.

I concur with Muskie Bait ....no fish along the shores of Toronto and GTA. I have been skunked 20 consecutive times fishing Toronto's shores in the past. Its hopeless! Its not me its the fish! There are none! Feel bad for me as I am a Toronto Urban Fishing Ambassador and I have no fish to be the Ambassador of. Not my job to prove to you there are fish where you do not want to believe there are. I would be wasting my time arguing with you when I could be fishing.

Bottom feeders....I have caught bass, walleye, brown trout, perch, bowfin, blue gill, pumpkin seed, crappie all taking bait from the bottom. My knowledge of bottom feeders is to my advantage and opportunity.

Carp are my 2nd favourite fish to catch after bowfin. Very happy to know that most of you will not be competing with me for the opportunity to catch one. I really like fishing for suckers in the dead Don River too.

If I had to fish for bowfin, carp and suckers standing shoulder to shoulder along the banks of the rivers trying to fair fish for my catch while others illegally snagged them before me then I would be an angry angler too.

I would rather fish Toronto in my little spare time then wait to go outside the city fishing the three times I would get to otherwise. I have caught bigger and better fish in TO waters than anywhere else I have fished with the exception of walleye and muskie. I grew up in Peterborough and Ottawa....I would rather fish Toronto. Thanks to you for making the drive out of Toronto to fish!

I went to Ashbridge's twice this week. Salmon, or something else but something, were all over the place. They were rising from the water constantly, from 6:30 to 9, which was when I left. Tuesday morning was nuts, this morning was a little more subdued. Unfortunately, I'm new to the game, and am presuming that was the reason for my complete lack of success. But there are big fish there, and they're there now. I just wish I could hook one.

Water was around 17 deg C, too cold for carp, right? And they were a silver/gray/slate colour. They were jumping completely from the water in some cases, and to my knowledge carp don't do this either. In any case, I'm going to try and get back there this week. Maybe third time's a charm

I don't fish downtown, but I know wherever there's fish, all you gotta do crack the code (lures, color, timing).
