Hi all. I've never been up to a Lake Huron Trib and I'm hoping to have some success considering the far drive.

Anyone have some useful tips for the area ?

I'll be float fishing and I have heard that there is a certain method of setting up your rig that is effective near a Lake Huron dam. anyone know how this works ?

Also is it mostly wading or do many people fish from shore ?

Please PM if you plan to name any specifics as I know this might contradict the site regulations.

Thanks in advance for any guidance you can give. Wish me luck. very excited for this outing.

Also, let me know if you plan to be up there this Saturday and would like to meet up.

Cheers.
G.

I believe you are in for the cleanup on Sat?lol

Remember no naming rivers. But since its already here the most important piece of advice I can give you is never be worried to put in a little gas mileage and get skunked! I got skunked at the geen earlier this year, its no biggie! When you start to get worried about getting skunked after putting in a long drive thats when you end up staying home and missing the run of a lifetime!

Remember you are fishing a bigger river with fast flow. If you are used to fising Lake Ont tribs then I suggest you will need to upsize your float and shotting.

In life, the journey is the reward.

I dont have a huge amount of experience fishing the Geen, but based on my experience:

-good luck fishing the dam on a weekend. Its an absolute gong show of idiots. There will already be 50 guys there an hour before it gets light lol
-upsize everything - float, shot, leader line, etc, many people run 12+gram slip floats there
-tons of river to walk, move around and try fishing different pools types of water. Its a huge river and can take a bit of figuring out if its your first time there
-if you've only caught Lake O fish before, hold onto your rod

LOL very true.

Agreed with everything. I fish a 14 footer up there so I don't use a slip float, just a 8-15g raven FD float.

Be careful when wading through there as some spots are very deep and if you slip on one of those rocks in the faster current you're going to take a ride down river.

one of the main reasons I like slip floats is they reduce line twist when fishing fast heavy flows, as often is the case at the geen. Not ideal to have your offering spinning like crazy either. But yeah, it all comes down to personal preference.
