I was thinking of getting a baitcast combo the was fairly cheap and have finally come up with something the has good quality and low price. I was thinking of getting the Shimano Caenan baitcast reel, paired with the BPS Tournament Series IM-7 Graphite rod. Do u think that's a suitable setup?

That combo will be good as long as you are comfortable with the feel.

If you like Shimano, around the price range of the Caenan, I would upgrade to the Citica as the Citica has an aluminum frame as opposed to the Caenan's graphite frame. Or, my preference would be to get a BPS Pro Qualifier instead. Dual cast control for more braking options. It comes in multiple retrieve ratios in both right and left hand. So, you can really get what you want.

I've owned BPS tournament cast and spinning series rods. For the price they are great, however, a little too stiff for my liking. Personally I would look into getting a Fenwick Eagle GL Triggerstick. It's around $65. Lighter, better guides, enough backbone and fast tip to really get heavy baits out there without compromising sensitivity, plus the great warranty and customer service behind the Fenwick name. A real good rod for under $100.
