Grand River Bass Derby

Just wondering if anybody on here will be entering the Grand River Bass derby this year in the k-w area ??

I will be joining. Was in it last year...its very well organized and lots of cool prizes.
Caught a 16Inch last year as my biggest...but you need at least a 19 to be in top 5.
But also caught 3 walleye in the grand during that tournament.

you can do whatever you want i believe but you can only fish between below belwood dam to above paris dam i think, im not 100% but if you check link it should say.

LOL. Oldest trick in the book.
That Bass does look big when held at arms length in front of that guy. It's probably a nice Bass, but the photography definitely makes it look bigger than it is. Check out the length of the fish in the pic, it extends from above the guys shoulder to almost his knee making it 3 ft long (unless that guy is real short.). Now eliminate the rest of the pic with your mind and see only the hand that is holding the fish and the fish itself.
If you ever watch fishing shows you will notice that in almost every snap shot they show the fish is held at arms length away from the anglers body, Bob Izumi comes right to mind as he always does this. I'm guessing the Bass in the pic is 2 to 3 lbs.

Al Lindner and cohorts from the fabby magazine The In-Fisherman were the first in the "fishing media" to recognize the impact that using a slightly wide angle lens (40, 35 mm) and holding the fish out from the body would have on readers.... a slight-of-hand trick that snowballed thru the 90s and is now a standard fish photograph technique. Often it is not even a conscious move, more a reflex action.... hold fish out towards camera... click!

make that 3 lber look like a 6 behemoth! lol

I am not suggesting the gentleman in the photo is doing that consciously but it does make for a pic with impact!

Agreed Dugger. I am also not suggesting anything "untoward"
Just saying you can hold a Perch out so it looks like a world record in a photo, when it really is 10 inches.

I think that guy in the pic did come top 3 last year though so the bass is at least 19 inches

Hey guys,

I doubt that fish is anywhere close to 6 lbs. The ones I have here were measured and posted in a different post I made but I thought I would put these pics here for people to reference sizes. My 2 20 inch exact smallmouth, one weighed in at 5.2 pounds and the next was in at 5.4 lbs. The last picture is my biggest one which was really stiff because I kept these fish on ice after we left in our live well. The fish came in at 22 inches and 5.9 lbs. In reference to my body, I am 6'2 267 lbs. Bigger upper body than the average person.
