Al Lindner and cohorts from the fabby magazine The In-Fisherman were the first in the "fishing media" to recognize the impact that using a slightly wide angle lens (40, 35 mm) and holding the fish out from the body would have on readers.... a slight-of-hand trick that snowballed thru the 90s and is now a standard fish photograph technique. Often it is not even a conscious move, more a reflex action.... hold fish out towards camera... click!
make that 3 lber look like a 6 behemoth! lol
I am not suggesting the gentleman in the photo is doing that consciously but it does make for a pic with impact!
