Anyone been in and around the Grand lately? If so, how has it been? I caught one small mouth a year ago, but I'd like to try my luck with trout.

I fish the grand almost everyday! And its been pretty slow last couple days but before that i went on a nice run Of getting like 3-5 smallies per outing . Ive never fished trout before

the grand can be one of the best, you just have to target the right fish at the right time....
in Fergus you can fish some spots for trout (check reg's) around the k-w area all other fish are in there( bass carp pike wall eye)
below the Paris dam to the mouth of lake Eire is also filled with trout and everything else..

i find fishing the tribs of the grand is a bit better, for trout.lol i have heard that it is a good river for trout, but i have never tried to fish it from trout. to many other fish in there.

send me a pm and i may share some beginner spots where you can find the T-routs!

cheers.

any area of ROCKS (shale) and Current will produce nice SMALL MOUTH BASS (BRONZE)!

Fish in whitemans creek. The is brown trout, book trout and rainbow trout in most of the year. There is an access point on robinson rd.

Thanks for the information everyone.
Some more info, The Grand is on fire between Caledonia and Dunnville the last few days. I caught 20 Smallies in 6 hours Thurs. plus 7 Channels. 4 of the Smallies were 3 lbs or better. A friend of mine fished there Sunday and caught 12 Smallies and 4 Channels also in about 6 hours. Lots of good water and lots of good fishing.

Thanks Alfiegee...what baits were you using mostly?

not sure what alfie was using but I suggest bringing a crayfish imitation or using the real thing. Crayfish is thier main diet.

They sure do love the LOBSTER in the GRAND! lol

Catch em on sight, the soft shell ones are KILLER (just molted).

Hook em in the second last tail section, wait for the hit - Keep em high and out of the Rock holes ... Enjoy!

Worms, and a good Rapala or Spinner (Panther Martin) all you need.

Alfie.... pics!!!!
Sorry Dugger, I don't possess the technology. Any pics I do take are on those disposable cameras you buy at the corner store. But I'm not really a photo-bug anyway and I like to release my catch as quickly as possible. And I also do not want to wade back to shore all the time to take pics and disturb the pool I am fishing.
I can't wait for the Chrome to start running. I've identified a few pools this year that I think will be very interesting this fall and next spring.

And then I said to myself, " Self you better get yourself some new waders that don't leak soon."
And then I said to myself, " Self you're right !" :)
And yes I do talk to myself all the time. :)

You live in zone 16, Bass season closes November 30th. That said, you should have your own copy of regulations and learn this yourself. You wont always have people to ask out on the water. Its easily downloadable from the ministry web site. Or provided when you purchase your licence
