Grenadier pond
Friday 25 Nov (13 degrees!) went end of day, hoping the shallows would have warmed up enough to get the fish moving. I worked the windward side of the pond from one hour before sunset to about 45 minutes after. Water was clear, level is down as the weir gate has been opened to draw the water down to the winter level. I did not see anyone else fishing the pond while I walked the bank, casting and retrieving.
I fished a 1/8th-oz "bitsy pond wiggler" lure on a wide loop knot using a 10'6 light action rod when long casting from the bank and a 6'6" light action rod when fishing from inside the weed banks. I think the unusually warm temps helped to draw the pike into shallower waters and shadows before sunset. I managed two decent pike in just over 90 minutes fishing ( it may have been the same fish twice, 20 minutes apart, not sure). I was using long casts, and a dead slow retrieve parallel to the weed lines about 10 ft out. Lost one lure on a sunken tree, marked the position for spring time, should be a good spot. A good "right time- right place" urban excursion with the usual variables all apparently all in my favour!
This is a pike, if you have never seen one.
