i have a raven matrix xl, recently got dirt in the bearings and reel now spins worse than a skippers special... not really sure how this happened but is there a way of fixing or do i need to switch out the bearings...

are you sure its in the bearings and not just in between the spool and the rest of the reel? take it apart and wash it, put back together see if its still grinding.

in this case what i would do is service em, there is few youtube videos on how to remove bearing seals, thats what i usually do when really fine grit makes it pass the seal, its inevitable specially when a pin is dipped. hope my 2 cents helped

simple air compressor or even a pump might do the job. as always. you just have to re-oil it afterwards.

The matrix XL has sealed bearings, as tcp suggested check the interior spool first and give it a good clean. Cant imagine its shot

If it's the c clamp shield style, careful taking it off as those suckers can take flight easily.

Also, if you do go down that route, take out one shield and clean them that way. Taking out both shields can lead to a disaster. Not recommended for your first time taking bearings apart lol. I screwed mine up that way cause shit happens.

Its just in the spool; not the bearings. All you need to do is take apart the spool, wash it, dry it, then add a drop (1 drop) of oil to the bearings and re-assemble.

Take it apart. Clean and grease. Like I do with all my reels every year.. You can get some " grit " anytime. Just keep a regulor maintainence sched with all your gear.

Alfie.
