Just a heads up for those urban fishing within the GTA. The Toronto Urban Fishing Ambassadors have installed these fishing line receptacles at most popular fishing spots. This is a good and safe way to dispose fishing line and they recycle it too. If you wanna learn more about it and know where they're located, check out their website...

LOL. The lower right pocket on my fishing vest is also a receptacle for discarded fishing line. I pick up yards and yards of it every time I go fishing. As I have said before that discarded line can be a death trap for fish or wild-life or birds. And pretty sure it is the "white bucket brigade" but I often come across line that must be 50 lb test or more along rivers. That could trip up an angler, and combined with waders and a strong current the results could be disasterous.
I strongly encourage everyone, if you find discarded line where you are fishing, ball it up and put it in you pocket and dispose of it properly and save lives!
I was unaware, but it makes sense that fishing line, at least mono would be recyclable. If I bag and mark it can I put it in my blue box? Also when I do get home and want to dispose of it I get the sissors out and cut it into tiny pieces so animals and birds at the dump cannot become entangled.

I never leave line out intentionally but I never thought of the situation you described.

Very smart idea to cut the line up.

Its great to see the city doing something like this. BUT it would be even greater if these ignorant people would put them to use. I have seen trash from fishermen and the garbage bin would literally be 25 yards away. Whenever I have a bag on me its always full of other fishermen garbage, if you can even call them fishermen. But again it is a great movement towards a cleaner future
