NO live bait at Mountsberg, it is posted at the entrance, depending what side you fish spinner bait, if fishing the weeds frogs, weedless jigs. Good luck, I have caught some big pike in there and a few bass.

oh ok thnxs. i have tryed many different places for bass and havent got any luck, just nice size catfish. ive used jigs, worm, mepps, fake minnos and no luck. could i be doing something wrong....

you have probably already gone as my post is a bit late but I know the Berg pretty well. I havent been to mountsberg much in the past month or two as i know from experiance that the weeds have grown in and made fishing from shore much harder. anyway there are ways around this by using weedless lures and you can increase your fishing chances buy focusing on morning or night. for bass I throw a weedless worms Texas riged into the weeds as well as top water rapala poppers when the water is calm. if you can get a boat or a canoe your chances are greatly increased. For Pike i have a lot of luck on spinners as well as a TON of luck on lipless crank baits like a rattling sunfish.

I find with the spinners i crank them in pretty fast late inthe season then just as i can see my lure i stop and watch it fall deeper into the wate, many times I have watched pike come from underneath and nail it as it starts to fall 10' from the boat.

I like catching pike ona spinner bait because its much easier to take off then a double, treble hook

good luck

oh an no Live bait , the only reason there is pike in that lake is because of people releasing live bait minos years ago and some of these minos were young pike that took over bass populations

Weeds grows fast when there's no rain or you can say Lake empties out quickly. If you don't catch fish you still win! Come back again next day.

I was fishing in a small spot i know in Carlisle. Was talking to a few people there and apparently the pike that are there came from Mountsburg. I guess years ago there was a big flood and some pike got over the dam there at Mountsburg and ended up down stream in carlisle. They have pretty much taken over the area i was in. There was a decent trout population there before they came from what i was told. Any way i just found it interesting how a few pike can totally take over an area so quickly.

I lived in Carlisle for 15 years and know the area well. Actually fr3ak, the Pike mostly come from Valens. The stream that runs down from Mountsberg is not really suitable for Pike although I guess small ones could make it. Pike from Valens seems much more likely.
As for the Trout, which I used to get all the time. They disappeared due to construction and stream alterations long before the Pike started showing up. They vanished in a matter of 2 years, it was a shame, I literally used to get them 10 ft from my front door. All the human expansion reduced the amount of water in the stream and man-made obstructions slowed the water causing it to become warmer and unsuitable for trout to survive. For once on this forum it was not the MNR that fukked up it was the ministry of the environment who did not do their research and allowed the work to go on.
I go back every 2 or 3 years now to see if the Trout have made a come back, I was there a few months ago. Unfortunately they have not.
