Yikes, Dalrymple is far for me. Probably 2.5hrs
Well if you said where you wanted to go, I would let ya know if I could make it! PM me if you want to try for some pike.

I tried Dalrymple earlier this summer because I heard so much about it. We rented a boat and were out there from 9am to 7pm but didn't get any hits from pike or bass (well a tiny bass shore-fishing from the bridge before the boat rental opened). Lots of perch, and caught the biggest pumpkinseed I've ever seen in my life, but that was it. I don't know if it was us, or the fish that just weren't into it that day! I'm definitely willing to give it another chance though...nice lake :)

Oh, sorry to highjack your thread Jan. I'm new to OFF as well and live downtown west. We can hook up sometime. Get it? Hahaha.........yup.
It's already one of those days.

The most accessible spot to go after pike is Harbour Front. Big ones too. but becareful as some people there don't like anglers...Bluffers Park is good for pike but at the moment...not a good spot. there's a "stampede" going on and I noticed when that happens, it's best to troll for them. Of course going up north or Kawarthas will always be better...don't get disappointed if you catch a muskie while pike fishing too as they go for the same lures.

Hey sista! Haven't tried yet, but certainly not ruling it out. I'm not sure if I have the proper gear. Yourself?

I just started! I was in the same boat as you, not sure if my gear would work.....if you want to float fish you can use a spinning reel and rod, all you will need are the proper floats, bait, weights, swivel, leader. Jerk is right, you can also catch them on spoons and spinners. I hooked my first one on a crank bait. If you end up liking the whole river scene, invest in the proper stuff. I didnt understand what proper gear would do until I got out there....now it makes sense! I just picked up a basic 9ft rod, going to use my spinning reel for now and then hop on the centerpin bandwagon.

If you're interested in seeing what its all about, check out instapumps videos (if you havent already). Setting the hook like that is what I LIVE for these days. Sometimes I stand in my room pretending im drifting and BAM, I set the imaginary hook. lol (<-----serious statement)

Maybe one day we can go out together!

What do you mean blown? Filled with other people or a mess because of the rain?

Thanks for the tips FG and PJ. Excuse the ignorance, but what is the difference between a spinning reel and centrepin? I think my rod has a spinning reel with a 10lb test. I will have to look into the bait, etc. For sure we will have to go out...I'm sure I can learn alot from you.

A spinning reel is what I call 'regular', a centerpin has no drag, the reel just spins. You have to use your hand as the drag and when you set the hook. I think there will be a learning curve for sure...but I have a feeling us gals will be quicker to learn :)
If you look at instapumps vids he is using a centerpin.

I may be able to teach you a thing or two but I gotta give all the cred to Dozer, he has been my mentor :)

there are pros and cons on using centerpin. as most of the hardcore 'pinners' here state. go with a starter centerpin before you decide that you're dead set on going hardcore. they are not cheap. you will gradually learn...baby steps for sure. if you can learn to fish with spinning gear in 1 day...you can probably learn it in 1 if someone needs to guide you through it for centerpin. but all in all...i find it really good. and like FG said. you will deal with the fish without the aide of the drag from spinning gear.

AHHHHH what a Halloween treat to get so much action on my thread!!! No worries about the highjacking. I am hooked thats for sure. Give me a shout when you are heading to the water.
Was today again at the spot in the west end and didn't catch anything  haha but thats cool, thought the high temperatures would get a few pike to look out for some goodies especially since there was a beautiful border between clean lake water and the dark soup from the creek ahh well no fish but learned a few things and met a super nice guy who actually broke his rod yesterday :???: at exactly that spot but today he was back to try it again, thats what I call a real fisherman. Good fishing and a Happy Halloween everybody
