Are these things just about hype and marketing or are they the real deal I am talking about the Stellaz and the Steez have you guys been able to test one out or try it out there is lots of hype about the Stella especially.

I've picked up a Steez in the store and I got goose-bumps. BUT - These types of super expensive reels are over-kill. I also don't think that a $500 reel is 500% better than a $100 reel to justify the 500% higher price IMHO. But hey, if you don't mind spending the $, and want the "best"...

I might add that I would rather buy a super expensive rod with a lifetime guarantee than a $500 reel that I will replace in a couple of years.

Makes sense.

some reels are crazy expensive i say if your in the market spend no more then 200. a 200 reel will give you nice quality and reliabilty an besides you wont want to keep for ever. A rod on the other hand i have never spent more then 110 on. i believe you should have at least one nice setup, but for beginners a 40 or 50 dollar setup is fine.

if you have the money to burn you can get a rod and reel for over 1100 buck. But it wont guarantee you fish either.

The top priced reels are not only made with the top quality material, they will always have the most bearings and have the latest technology. The bigggest difference in most of these reels is the weight difference. Most are made out of Magnesuim or carbon fiber compounds. The whole idea behind this is two main reasons; the light weight is for less fatigue - if your twiching you rod for 8 hours, that little weight can make a big difference and when your whole set up super light, it helps to increase you ability to detect light nibbles.

There are different price points so that people can buy what they want and can afford. An expensive reel/rod doesn't mean more fish in the boat.

Take a look at the shimano curado it has less ball bearing but they are higher quality and they are anti rust. The reel is very smooth and very dependable and has 3 options for retrieve speed i'd probably go witht the 6.3 for an all arounder. for 200$ i don't think you'll find a better reel.

well said billspipes! i'm using the high speed version at the moment. no regrets!

Yes I also have the high speed version it sure helps when you are trying to cover water or are spinnerbait fishing.

i personally prefer the Quantum reels. they are decently priced and some of the best on the market. i own a Tour Edition PT baitcaster, an Energy PT baitcaster, an Energy PTi 20 spinning reel, a Kinetic PTi 20 spinning reel and they are all great. very smooth and durable. they have 12-6 bearings in each reel. very good quality bearings. i have an older, cheaper quantum baitcaster, and i can say that spending the extra money on a top end reel makes a big difference when fishing with it. everything is smoother and easier. the brake controls on Quantum baitcast reels are great. very easy to use, no need to stop and open ur reel and play around inside, its rite there, takes less then a second to adjust it.

Hey I have one of the Quantum Tour Edition PT reels as well with the burner gear ratio.

They are great reels as well but i do find it little harder to set up in windy conditions than the curado. nontheless a great reel. I think that any reels in the same price category are close.

I was actually deciding between the quantum tour and the curado before i bought mine but went with shimano in the end. i would imagine the quantum to be similar in performance. in the end its up to personal performance. i wish i had lots of buddies with different reels so i could try them before settling, but I'm happy with shimano. very smooth and sturdy.

btw Hyperfox you can find some nice deals on ebay. i got mine BNIB for $170 total after shipping when BPS was selling it for $249 before taxes when it was first released.

Ya I wish i would have thought of ebay before i bought mine.

Oh well!

I bought my curado at BPS and talked to one of the pros who was volunteering that day he said you can't go woring with the curado I guess he was right!

The key thing here is to wait for the sales and don't be in a rush to buy your reel. I waited for the sportsmen show and bought the Quantum tour edition pt from LeBaron for 179.00 and no tax, and got a mail in rebate for an additional $50.00 off.

whoa, thats pretty good. when was this?

This was the second week of March. Every year at that time, BPS, LeBaron an some of the other fishing stores have some really good sales on. What Lebaron does when the sportsmen show is on, is no tax at any of their stores, plus additional show specials on top of that.
