I noticed how much time you spend trying to find out what line to use. It wouldn't be bad to focus more on other things now that you have so much info...

How much pounds test should I use for Pike, rainbow/brook trout, walleye, bass and panfish?

I usually go for line rating higher than the estimated fish weight. If you are targeting a 10 lb pike, say, I would have a 15-20 lb line. This ia partly becuase I do not use long rods and also the fact that I hate loosing fish becuase of a weak line. My personal opion is that except in super-clear water, the line thickness is not sppoking the fish (people use monster hooks that fish will see so why would line spooke them?). As long as casting is easy and you can case as far as you want, I think a few lbs above the fish weight is good. Braided line is suggested whenever you can, excellent strength to thichkess ratio, less memory, wind knots, etc. & for pike, use coated steel leaders. I lost a huge pike on monofilament

There's Steelheader's that use 2lb test leaders....Best thing to do is to get experience and decide yourself :)

the dudes a kid man.

he probably doesnt have alot of dough to spend on line so if anything buy braided and attach flurocarbon leaders
