It was my second time with that rod lol, I dont wanna break or damage a $300 piece of equipment. Although after that fight, I learned the rod can handle way more pressure than I had been putting on it usually.

Also, im running the exact same set up, 10lb main mono and 8lb fluro. Anyways, hoping to find some fresh browns tomorrow

haha yea, i find a lot of people only use 1/3 to 1/2 of their rod when fighting a fish.....i mean you bought the whole rod, use the whole rod lol i've got an 11'6 streamside im8 float rod, i've had it bent to the handle on a salmon

LOL, the only time I had it break on me was after someone stepped on the top section. I had it replaced within two weeks.

beat the crap out of the rod on salmon, whack it off trees etc, still have yet to have it blow up on a fish. I was running 12lb main and 10lb leader the last few outings.

Gotta get out with you guys, its boring all alone. Going tomorrow all day in the east if anyone is interested. PM me

NOOOO!!! i booked a day off tomorrow for fishing and im going! lol...stupid rain.

maybe the east didnt get it as bad. I know the west was pummeled

The day after the rain is when you want to be fishing !! That's when you get the big runs you just can't see them for the high dirty water but the good part it the snaggers don't stay for long !! Can't snag what you can't see

Check charts and rain gauge data for specific areas. Just because it may say Toronto got 14 mm ( that is defined as 14 mm at ONE gauge at ONE particular spot and depending what station you watch the gauge could be anywhere ) doesn't mean that Pickering got 14 mm.

I also like checking out doppler radar the day before I head out... again, it is an estimate but accurate enough - lets me see exactly where the system is, where it is concentrated, where it dissipates, etc.

those are awesome rods !!!! I have the 17' im8 and I was blowing 12lb leads on salmon last year !! Very powerfull rods

ive been on weather charts and reports all morning. Just finished with some of the reno at my condo, gonna hit up north east and then work my way down.

Doesnt look like any rain fall hit or will hit that area, radar showing movement south south east.

Anyone have that link for the hydro charts?

went 4/6 ...all hooked by the mouth!

heres a trick i use when i use my casting reels on a boat or surf.
all of them are open frames with no levelwinds so the idea is the same. we call it simply 'thumbing the line'
except in this case, youll need to use your right index finger.

from your pic, your reeling with the left hand?

when you have a fish on, (rod in right hand) slightly roll your rod up 45deg clockwise. (point the reel towards your left thigh)
when the line hits the right flange of the spool,
use your index finger to push the line from the right side to the left side of the spool while reeling in.
relax the finger when the line is on the left flange,
if you keep reeling, gravity and physics makes the line return to the left side automatically (because your reel is slightly turned to the side)
then you push it to the left again.

itll take practice to get used to this. after a while itll become second nature. and youll never have this kind of problem again.
