Sorry for all the newb questions. I'm going to re spool my pin. When you all do it do you just put it finger tight or get someone to put tension on the spool?

I had my wife keep tension on the spool of line, while I loaded the line on the pin and fed it properly.

Get some one to put a pencil through the middle of the spool and they need to put a little tension on the spool. Then just reel as fast as you can while moving your finger slowly back and forth across the spool. So basically what iJay said.

Anyone try one of those machine kits they sell @ BPS? I wanted to, but was unsure of the results.

I was also thinking for my Pin this year, to hook it up to a bicycle LOL prob be faster to peddle the bike to fill a pin with 8lbs line no backing LOL

Ijay i had a motor and a sprocket for its shaft that fit perfectly inside a spool, it worked pretty well, you just need good torque lol

why would you NOT put backing on your pin, it fills the spool faster. i mean on mine i have 200yrds of 20lb backing +300yrds of 8lbs mono, if 500 yrds isn't enough, you're doing something wrong

You dont even need anyone, or a pencil.

Because of the ways pins work, you should have your spool laying flat on the ground. no pencil, no spool tension. You will get WAY better line twist if you use this method, trust me.

I just feed it through my closest eye, apply tension with my feeding finger, and youre done in two minutes. boom.

clearly u dont hero drift.

PSSHTTTT

I got a stellar deal on a case of line last year when I was in Detroit. I have line that will never be used if I backed my pin.

Same here ijay, I have a 10k yard (yes you read that right) spool, i bought online, who needs backing lol, drift a roe bag down to the lake

The spools I got are all 5000yards I got 12 of em

6,8,10,12lbs spools. 3 of each.

Line degrades over time even when they are not exposed to UV, moisture or dirt. By the time you get to the 2nd spool of 5000 yards, you might as well throw it out...

Ill keep that in mind.......

They are actually to take down with us on our next trip to Florida, I have 4 reels that hold 2500yards each

I have a couple of those "Disks"

Trust me, there is a certain way to keep line, and certain ways to waste em. I'm well aware of how to keep the line good and well.

the only think I was/am worried about is having the line not come out with the spiral waves.

But ill keep your advise in mind about throwing out 55,000 yards of line. :)

Get a big spool of backing from sail 250yd 20buck. Then you'll only need 200 yd of mono. The inner 2/3 of the line on the pin never sees the light of day anyway. (All as per freq flyer )
Also, if you spool a pin with pure mono you run the risk of warping the spool as mono is stretched on when wind it on.
You should never need half a mile of line, hero drifter or nor

this

also dont be a scrub. use backing. youre not getting any advantage or tough guy points for not using it. ;)
i use braid as it doesnt pull tight on the spool from stretch and cushions the rest of the mono so it holds well.

Did I read that right? 2500 yards of line each?

You're trying to spool an 80lb class reel with 10lb mono?

I mean, my Avet will definitely take at least 1000 yds of 10lb mono...but that's just silly.

Even if you wanted to use the last of the line left on the reel it would be hard to side cast with. It would be so deep on the spool on some of pins it would be hard to pull off the side. You could wallis or pull cast with line deep on the spool. Using a backing is also lighter than a bunch of mono. In fact I have heard of people using pure mono or leadcore line to increase the weight of the reel and balance a rod. The amount of line you can get on even with backing is more than you need.
