hey just wondering what everyone's opinions are on all the different brands out there. what brand and test do you use for panfish, and bigger fish like pike?

I haven't gone ice fishin yet but most of the guys I see use something in the 4-6lb range main with a lighter leader
as for brands I have no clue which is best but im sure all the trusted names are suitable at the end of the day

4 lb main line for pike up to 6-8 lbs, panfish, big crappies, ling, smaller lakers in the 6 lb range, whities, etc. if the main line doesn't work, put a 2 lb leader on, i learned my lesson 2 weeks ago, after trying to get a crappie to bite on 4 lb test for 3 hours on a pressured lake

Man you guys use light line in the south ,, up here in the north I use 8lb for small fish like Perch,, Bluegill, ,Withies,, and 20lb braid for Walleye,, Pike ,they grow big here in the north,,, there's one lake I found last year small but no bottom ice fish with nylon rope no word of a lie pike 40lb to 50lb are common

2lb mono here for pannies, don't care how pressured a lake is I like having every advantage I can. For pike I use 6lb, however earlier this week I was fishing pressured snot rockets on the 2 lb :)

But the Ontario record is 42 lbs. I'd say 25-30lbs max and that's pushing it, Pike aren't typically found in large sizes. Not trying to go against your word by all means, and not trying to come off rude.

I think he might be talking about the line.

Giuga ,,,, have you ever seen Pike travel in packs I fished this spot in summer and saw pike 4 to 5 feet long Bigger ones are harder to catch there wise ,, iv hade them brake 40lb braid like it was thread ,,,

Ok, you have to show me these fish! And then I want to try landing one on my 2lb line :D

For mono I use 8lb for walleyes and 4 for pan/trout. Braid I was using fireline in 20. I hated it until it was a few years old.

I just got 4lbs and 12lbs Berkely Nanofil to try out this season. The 4lb is so and so strong I wouldn't hesitate to try it out on walleyes either. I will let you know what I think after I try it out on the hardwater
