had fun today doing some small creek fishing. If anyone could take a look at the pics and let me know if I am right/way off.
thanks!

Here's an imgr album.

1. I think this is a Striped Shiner, mainly due to the non-crowding of scales behind his eyes.

2. I think its a longnose dace

3.I caught a couple of Green Sunfish. Can't believe the beautiful orange colours on their fins. Is there a reason for this? Breeding?

4.I think this is a Hornyhead chub

1) Very good!

2) Very good!

3) Male Green Sunfish can retain the colours for a long time after the spawning period. They are just striking looking in general.

4) This is a River Chub. It lacks the spot at the base of the caudal peduncle (the narrow muscular part of the tail). River Chub and Hornyhead Chub are difficult to ID though. It take a while to get the hang of it. The more you catch, and the more you see them in person, the better you get.

You're learning fast though! :)

thanks so much. That little primer you put together on another post about IDing is seriously the best resource I have found on the whole web. So thanks for putting that together.
