so i went to my new usual spot today. nothing. not even a bite. but the guy next to me managed to hook up 2 browns.
stayed from like 630am to 830am. no big deal. getting skunked happens.

i decide to try other spots along the way home into DT, since there is no traffic. why not? :D
pulled into humber bay, waters kinda murky, passed. went to the next nearest place.

i stopped by humber river shore park? parked my car at the first lot in the park. walked to the river.
i tried to see if theres any life around the white bridge thingy.. looking at google maps. thats the mouth to humber river
(sorry if it sounds like im spot burning, not my intention)

all along the shores and into the river as far as i can see, i did not see another fisherman.... not even one. what the hell? :scratching my head:

so im just standing there on the rocks, wetting a line with a lure for about a dozen casts.

so MANY joggers, cyclists, walkers stopped and looked oddly at me. no joke. at a glance i counted ten along the walkway at my back.
they were not just moving and passing by, they stopped, sat down, then proceeded to talk about me. which i overheard. :getting mad by now:
the people walking across the bridge stared at me, the people on top of sheldon lookout stared, and im pretty damn sure the birds were staring oddly at me. what the hell is so weird? im fishing.

the new yorker in me, wanted to turn around and cuss out 'what the eff you all staring at, eff off'. which i refrained from doing.
i mean... what gives. havent you people seen someone trying to fish before?

it felt so damn odd, reeled in, picked up my net, climbed up a few rocks and left.
i was really pissed, im there to enjoy my day the same as all those frickin people.
paid some loose change for parking. minding my own business, not to be stared at like im some sort of freak show.

these people might think im weird? but seriously.. the weird ones are them, so disrespectful and unmannerly.

is fishing really THAT unpopular in that area?
if this applies to fishing in DT along harbourfront, if again im gonna get all these odd stares and nosy onlookers.
i seriously dont want to even go fish there. even though i live about 3 blocks from the water.

sorry if i post this half rant/report in the wrong place. mods please move if so.

It sounds to me like they were just interested in seeing you fish. People do that sometimes. You'll likely get even more attention once you hook into a fish

i guess they dont understand how annnnnnoying they are.

its like when your working on a job for a customer/client, and the bloke is basically riding up your butt, following 2" behind you, watching every single movement.
arGH!   (&(*!)(@(!&#^&^%&*)_@$~~!!

They like jogging you like to fish some people like to hit the ball as far as they can and go start looking for it.some people love pushing little ettered buttons and smiles or even laughs for whatever reason we don't know..just saying...not trying to offend anyone. Its always weird on the otherwise.

I don't mind a crowd around me as I fish, so long as no one is harassing me... From my experience fishing TO, you should get over it, or most of your outings will end like this. Pay no attention to what others are doing, just rock it.

I get tons of weird looks(and harassment) when I fish, especially since I fish with hand-line. Some people laugh at me, thinking that I must have the brain of a 5 year old for trying to catch fish with some line wrapped around a coke bottle.
I learned to ignore pass-by people, as they will most likely waste your time.
If someone talks to me when im fishing, and I dont want to be bothered, I just pretend I dont understand English.

That is just rude and not a good way to encourage fishing in TO, especially when we have to win over all the yahoos Eric and you talk about. I keep a positive attitude, start a conversation with them, offer them a chance to make a few casts and by the end of it, there is one more person on our side should the city try to ban fishing.

Rude? how so? Its just a way to avoid conversation. Some people just dont want to be bothered by others and have a peaceful time fishing. Its not like he/she is offending them in any way.

Seems the amount of people going by you while fishing will be ten fold in TO compared to most other places in ontario, and so will the amount of idiots. The vast majority of people who stare at you just are looking and that's it. When I am running I also look at fisherman.

Like others have said be friendly if they wanna talk. I will spark up a convo or two, some days I just wanna fish and if I don't make eye contact most wont talk or we will just exchange a friendly head nod or a hello. As a rule I always go out of my way to help any cute girls I see fishing. I also help many people canoeing as it is very popular on the saugeen, just today I helped out a couple who were canoeing and where portaging at the same time I was putting my boat in. Someone stabilizing your canoe while the first person gets out can be a real help

Would you be offended if you heard someone talking english and then when you went up to them to tell them you supported their fishing, they couldn't utter a word? I would sure as hell be.

How would anyone overhear you talking in English if you avoid all conversation?

Please don't take this as me trying to start an argument. But yes it's rude. Just tell them politely that you're trying to fish or that you don't want to talk ect.. Just try your best to make it sound like you aren't trying to offend. I love talking to other fisherman, you never know some guy might show you the secret honeyhole, but you played the "no english" card. Be friendly, and you'll have a good time.

I can see both sides of the argument as whether pretending to not understand can be rude or not, but if you walk up to someone and they shake their head at you, are you really going to get offended? I sure wouldnt.

Its only rude if someone has heard you talking, then you pretend not to understand after that. I just shake my head at everyone who talks to me if I want to avoid conversation.

Downtown folk can be weird at times.. probably a bunch of trendy hipsters who don't konw how to spark up a conversation.. lol

its just funny. i mean, if they ask me things. i really have no problems starting small chat as a friendly gesture. especially like some cute girl lol.
like if they ask me what kind of fish are there. its no big deal.
but to talk like im a weirding effing person standing next to the water just mindlessly throwing something into the water.. smh :S
