So the main run is going on now?

pretty sure there is no "main" run this year, too late for that. I believe there were a cpl smaller runs though, mainly when the ice ran out, and the current rainfall we have had the last day or two. In my home creek of Oshawa, the fish should still be coming in, but I don't expect it to be the "main" run. If I were you, i'd get out there in the next few days and try to land a few before opener. Opener will be full of fisherman, and likely less enjoyable because most people have terrible etiquette when it comes to steelheading, with regards to their floating, keeping of fish, killing fish for skeens , etc.

But around opener time and early may , the steelhead fishing should be pretty good right?

fishing for steelhead is always good, opener just open up more water to fish for them. I don't wait for opener some of the best steelhead fishing for me has been done way before the opener.

Yes totally, still lots of great fishing for opener time, you just need to find the right places to fish. I guess one way would be to find as many people as you can along the river or creek, cause likely that's where the fish are. Also, to be honest, aslong as you know fish are there, just try to find the deep holes and fish those. Pretend as if you were a steelhead and think, "if I were a steelhead, where would I hang out with my wang out?"

Agreed, I notice the water temp and water levels and water colour is much more favourable before opener. In March and beginning of April (before opener) I notice the water temp is much colder, the levels are much higher and the colour is much better (greenish colour). Once opener starts, there's just so many more fisherman, its basically impossible to find a hole with fish with no fisherman, usually the pressure is put on hardcore once opener starts. As well, I hate how the water levels are super low and the colour is non existant (clear), i've fished holes with 50-60 massive trout and the water is crystal clear, and you can see the trout swim away from your bait as you drift by them, crafty little buggers.

Fisher12 Why Are You So Concerned About Fishing Only In May?

Just Curious Thats All. Also Dont Want To Side Track But Does The Steele Head Make Thier Runs At The Humber During The Opener?

Oh, Right On.

Dont Know Much About The Spring Runs But I Still Got A Long Way To Go Before I Can Go Wade In The River.
