In certain circumstances I guess gloves are needed. Although every fish has a way of bing held without injury to you or the fish. But for species like bass...obviously not in this post. There is no reason to use them..just grab em by that big ol lip.

that slime on a pike contains very dangerous bacteria that can give you a fatal infection if it gets into your blood stream through an injury..when i was getting a hook removed the doctors at the hospital told me about it...

that's news to me that people have died from handling a pike.
