Totally agree with you. I watch fishing shows online when I'm bored and thank god you can fast forward the commercials but to be honest sometimes it's hard to tell what's part of their show and what's an advertisement.

Alfie:

Thanks for the added perspective man. That really steams me up. As I mentioned in another post I often go to do some bushwork before bass season and yah the bass are super active and territorial while they're spawning so catching one is the easiest thing in the world but it would be so selfish to target them. I don't even wet my line anywhere near the shore. As soon as you pluck one from the nest in come the rockies to slurp up the eggs and guess what that means less forage for other fish in the short run and fewer bass and other fish in the long run.
Agreed, some years ago, after a particularly long winter I was fishing a lake near Red Bay on the Bruce. It was after Bass had opened but I quickly realized they were still on their spawning beds. O well, I said to myself as I moved out to some deeper water, nothing wrong with a few Pike :D And there wasn't.

I wish everyone was as respectful as that Alfie. I'm also glad I've never come accross that dilema haha! Most lakes I fish are relatively small and warm up fast so the bass are usually out of their beds well before opener.

Maybe with the earlier start date this year I'll see them nesting on opening week and have to pull back but I've never seen them bedding past the first week of June yet and I hope it stays that way lol!

I love catching them when they are on the beds thats the best time for bass!
Yes they are easy to catch when they are on their beds, the reason being they are protective parents and will attack anything that comes near their nest or young. The reason Bass season opens when it does is to give the young a chance at surviving while protected by the adult fish.
Often when 1 of the adults is caught it will not return to the young and the young are left vulnerable to predators. If everyone subscribed to dragging Bass off their nests there wouldn't be a lot of Bass left to catch when the season is open.

Alfie.

Hey guys. I want to ask you to try and stay on topic. This thread is about a show on carp angling not taking bass OOS or off their beds. I knew that there would be some controversy since I am well aware of what was done in the past and the downfall the show.

Dude that's such a lazy troll. This isn't a Justin Bieber youtube video and we aren't teenage girls so if you're going to troll at least put some effort in to it so I can get a laugh.

Sorry for hi-jacking your thread hammercarp...I'll rememeber to stay on topic in the future.

I also apologize hammer, the thread did get off topic. Sometimes things just make yer blood boil and you have to respond.
Getting back to Italo, I caught the last 15 mins of the show you mentioned this past week end. It was very informative. Where can you pick up the gear and baits he was showing? He had boilies in jars that seemed pre packaged and flavored. Or would it be better to make my own as described in some of the sites you recommended and I have bookmarked?
I really want to do a trip into the Grand this year. Usually when I go with friends I only have 4 or 5 hours so the concentration is on Bass, Cats and Walleye, but I want to make a weekend of it and know some pools where there are huge Carp, that way I could spend some time fishing everything.

Alfie.

Sail have a few Carp items on the shelves these days, including bags of boilies and jars of pop ups, feeders, spods etc.

If you have time, check out these guys online. http://newworldcarp.com/osc/ Based in Hamilton. Lots of useful bits and pieces.

These guys are in the US, lots of boilies......!

Thanks I appreciate it.
Alfie store bought boilies are not my favourite bait. I think making your own is better. I think jars of prepared corn is even better. I think canned corn and boiled feed corn are better still and I think that puffed corn is the cats pajamas .

Good to know. I would definitley go if he opens a storefront. His site comes up as US based...?

I have used a few bags of store bought boilies with mixed success, end of last year I switched to adjustable zig rigs as most of the island Carp are cruising along a few feet down. Carp Kit supplies me with rig bits and pop ups..

Italo went out with redfish off of the simcoe board for some deep water Lakers, I really wanna see that show. Sorry hammercarp this is a bit off topic but it still has to do with italo
