That was my first thought too Madoc. Brookies are a very delicate fish. I have heard that even under ideal circumstances less than 10 % survive catch and release for more than a day or 2.
My favourite fish to go after, I always use barbless but if there seems to be any damage to the fish they end up on my plate. Why feed the turtles when Specks are IMO the best tasting fish around.

whats the point of possibly killing all of them when they have 2 boats they can take them out in?
 
you probably need to portage into those lakes, i wouldn't call brookies a delicate fish, i know they stock them like that in places with limited access, they seem like delicate fish but they're not, these guys are tough, actually one of the toughest fish i fish for.

Sorry to disagree but it is a fact that most catch and release Brookies die shortly after release. They are a tough fish, but they kill themselves during the fight.
