july 29 2009
i am hung over...was out until 4 am...after fishing a marathon day july 28th
sleep in ...i get to island at 2:15...not raining anymore...it rained all morning though...
i find a couple small mouth bass...they won't eat worms or anything else....
then i figure out that they are not leaving an area...its a garbage can in the pond they won't leave
their nest is on top of it...late spawners i guess...i stop fishing for them....
i still have on a yellow mini strike king spinner bait....cast it out to another part of the pond...whamo
fight is on...i have a net 70 feet away...crap....all alone to deal with a bowfin...no net no glove...
i drag him on shore...far enough that i can pin my rod under a garbage can and run and get the net gloves and pliers
it all works out ...he is released...but he was cut from the hook...first time catching a bowfin on a spinner...the hook was harder on the fish and harder to remove...
i also caught a bass today in the canals close to shore under lily pads and dead weeds..at 7:30pm
i located a small pike but he was so protected by the cover he had chosen that presenting lures to him became a problem ...i had him moving around but staying within the confines of his cover....
today most fish were under heavy cover and not feeding
the lake was too calm...the fish were absent...i really had to work for what i got...
the sundown was sweet
