My dad bought one a while back as a back up and the rod was okay but the reel was complete garbage...but for 24 bucks you cant really go wrong, and if ur only targeting perch it wuld be fine

I'd say that that gear is good for perch, bass, crappie and bluegill. You're pretty much buying the reel and that rod is a giveaway. still can't defeat the fact that you can fish for $40 all in. A lot of us invest on gears but that's after realizing...

i know lol. put it this way if i had the money id buy the expensive ones.
exactly...I started with a CT combo as well. I believe it was a shimano for any specie. It came with a tackle box with it too. And with limited $$$ that I had. I was pretty much contented on using what's in that tackle box. Guess what, I caught pike & bass on that set. And I pretty much was going to use it until it breaks....it did after 6 months...way past my expectations....and had to shop around for something that would last me years.

It doesn't matter what the price is so long as you are happy with it. The important thing is to fish it like a boss.

Haha seen this before! I love the challenge but when it comes to the road and reel question and can't beat fishing for $40... I feel the same, except the more money I've put into my gear the little advantages I feel I get with the feel of the rod or response. Obviously its not about the rod and more about the guy/girl holding it but I don't mind the little extras :p

I still use my CT combo that I bought a while back. OFF guys helped me out when i first started :) great learning rod and don't regret the buy at all
