Lady O double header on a kayak

Was a beautiful day Saturday. Got an early start about 5:30am hit the water. Lake was like glass. Trolled the shallows marking tons of bait balls but not a sniff on either spoon. Moved out deep and started to zig zag in. Nothing for 4 hrs. Literally had my eyes closed and head back, almost asleep then....... Opened my eyes to see the depth on the fish finder and the rigger released. Pick it up, set the hook..... fish on. Fought if for about a min then the lead core rod fires. WTF nothing for 4hrs then 2 in a min. Needless to say it was intense and epic. Best of all it was all caught on vid.

Yes I did keep one, and no I did not eat it lol. I got the hook up on home made raspberry jam. All it cost me is a fish from time to time. I'm out there for the jam! Good trades though.... enjoy

Sweet video man! Glad you caught that on film. Where abouts are you launching the yak onto lady O? I've always been a little leary taking a yak out that far.

I couldn't believe how clear the lake was on Saturday, you could see bottom 30-50ft down (didn't have a depth finder so just guessing).

Alewives must be in thick because the gulls have been diving like crazy.

Yup. Was casting by the lighthouse on frenchmans and it was green and very clear early morning. didn't see anything other than carp & a few sheepheads coming and going. schools and schools of alewives so ... that turned the pike fishing really slow...too many baitfish.

Sweet video man! Glad you caught that on film. Where abouts are you launching the yak onto lady O? I've always been a little leary taking a yak out that far.

I did the run between fisherman's pier and Bronte. As long as the winds are under 15kmh the lake is pretty much flat. I have a cheap winner pleasure fishing kayak as well as my Hobie. Even the cheap yak can handle Lady O.

Do you like the rigger or the torpedo better for trolling deep water? I'm still just on leg power so i'm always looking to eliminate drag.

Sometimes a forecast of flat turns into 15-20 knot winds pretty quickly. Always be vigilant and know your abilities.

Do you like the rigger or the torpedo better for trolling deep water? I'm still just on leg power so i'm always looking to eliminate drag.

I've never used a torpedo. Only rigger and lead core. I just switched my 3lb cannon ball out for 2 12oz Cuda torpedoes though. We will see how that works out. Also bought a real time live feed aqua vu trolling camera that I can clip the release too. I'll be able to see them swim up on the spoon now before they hit it. Gonna give that a shot this weekend.

Start with 1 rod lol. Two can get tricky at times. Speed and depth are crucial. It vary's from day to day. Once u find what works stick with it cause there are some angry giants down there.

Lol Noted! But 2 rods doubles your chances
Hopefully this fall I will be setup for trolling the shores of Big Lake O.
