I think I accidentally posted this in the General Discussion Forum lol. So I am reposting here (the appropriate forum (Sorry).

Lake Aquitaine is a storm water management pond fed by run-off water from the surrounding urban area. It is located directly behind the Meadowvale Community Centre in Mississauga and is indicated on the map below.

The lake is typically home to small brown bullhead, pumpkinseed, carp and koi (lol - yes koi). The pond is also stocked with trout and is home to smallmouth and largemouth bass.

My brother, a co-worker and I went to fish at this pond on June 5, 2008 after work. The weather was overcast and raining before we arrived at teh Community Centre and eventually cleared up by the end of the evening. We decided to fish from the dock/boardwalk adjacent to the concrete lookout immediately behind the community centre. We initially began fishing with small spinners, jointed Rapalas and tubes to cover as much water as possible with no luck. After awhile, we switched to small toasted and untoasted bread balls based on some recommendations and we began to catch small catfish. When I say small, I mean 3 - 4". After catching these small bullhead for about a half hour, we switched to canned corn, at which point I hooked into this carp. I was using an ultralight rod with a spincast reel spooled with 2 lb test!

In the background, you can see the concrete lookout we were fishing next to. Here is another picture of me hold the carp with my co-worker next to me holding one of the catfish he caught.

In the background you can the see the overflow from teh storm sewer. Shortly after that, my brother hooked into this fish which I think is a koi.

Shortly afterwards, the bite died down and we decided to call it a night. All in all, this was quite a productive fishing trip for a number of reasons. We were on fish for nearly the entire time, catching maybe 20 catfish between my brother and myself, and catching my first carp which was coincidentally one of the biggest fish of my life. Not bad for a little storm water pond in the middle of Mississauga!
